Bournside School played host to the Cheltenham and North Tewkesbury School Sport Network Year 9&10 Mixed Softball Competition on Tuesday 29th May.

The event was supported by the NGB, Baseball Softball UK (BSUK). The structure of the day saw teams from All Saints’, Pittville, Bournside and Chosen Hill receive a morning of coaching from two GB Softball Player/Coaches. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop skills, increase their knowledge of a new sport and ask questions to the international athletes in attendance. The sessions focused on the key skills needed in Softball- base running, pitching, fielding and batting. Practice games were also played to ensure the rules were understood and teams could establish tactics and team roles.

The day was finished off with the District Round Robin Competition umpired by the GB Softball Girls. The final saw teams that were consistent throughout the early stages progress through: All Saints Academy and Chosen Hill. With strategic fielding and some great hits from both teams, the score was nail-bitingly close, All Saints’ narrowly missing out by 1 RUN!

Chosen Hill School were awarded the Winners Shield, a bag of Softball Equipment and the opportunity to represent The District on 16th June at Cheltenham College. The BSUK coaches handed out some information regarding local Softball clubs in Swindon and Bristol- they were so impressed with some of the raw talent on display that a few students were Talent ID’d for GB!
