The new All Saints' Academy 3G Astroturf played host to this years District Girls Football Competition on Thursday 9th February. With snow in the air and the floodlights on, we had a great backdrop for some exciting football.

All Saints', Tewkesbury, Winchcombe, Cheltenham Ladies College and Pittville School all bought strong squads to the event. The competition was a Level 2 event of The School Games, meaning the winner of the league would go on to represent Cheltenham and North Tewkesbury at The Gloucestershire Finals on March 21st at Rednock School, Stroud.

It was a round robin format, all teams playing each other, 10 minutes one way, 7 a-side. The team with the most points at the end would be crowned the District winner!

All teams defended well and some fantastic saves at both ends meant clean sheets or low scoring draws covered the score sheet-every point gained was crucial. A 1-0 win from ASA againts Tewkesbury shook the league up, but the final match of the night ASA vs CLC, ASA scoring 1st, CLC equalising.....ended 2-1 to CLC which meant, with CLC drawing all of their games they were the overall winners of the league- Congratulations to CLC and Good Luck at the County Finals!

Thank you to all of the teachers, TA's and coaches that bought the teams on such a cold evening, also to the Sixth Formers from ASA and Hayley from GFA Female Refs, who refereed the matches.

Each school was given information booklets from Gloucestershire FA with local Womens and Girls Football Club Contacts in them so anyone who isn't part of a club yet can make that step to playing outside of school.

Thursday 1st December saw 'Finals Night' of the Year 8 Rugby Union Engagement Competition, the culmination of 3 weeks of fixtures held under floodlights at The Prince of Wales Stadium, Cheltenham.

This was a fantastic opportunity for some Year 8 boys in the District's Schools to participate in rugby fixtures against an appropriate level of competition, giving them an opportunity to engage in a competitive environment which is often only open to 'A team' players or First VI.

To increase the number of matches, all teams played each other in the group stages and there were play offs for all teams resulting in the final positionings.

Winners of Group 1 and 2 were: Pittville A Vs Winchcombe A/B

Winchcombe were the overall winners!

All games were refereed by young volunteers from local schools, they were supported by mentors from the RFU. They did a fantastic job over all 3 nights- thanks boys!IMG 1441

With interest shown by many schools within the Cheltenham and North Tewkesbury Network, support from Cheltenham Table Tennis Club and a great host site such as the new All Saints Academy, a Butterfly Schools’ Table Tennis League was set up.

The league ran over 3 weeks after school on 21st November, 28th November and 5th December. Teams were made up of 6 students, mixed boys and girls in KS3 from the following schools; All Saints’ , Balcarras, Cleeve, Tewkesbury and Bournside.

The event was set up as part of The School Games, developing competitive opportunities for all young people. Many of the teams were created as a Change 4 Life Club or recreational activity within school. The aim was to increase competition, provide opportunity for those who do not normally participate in school sport and develop the link between school and club. Students played 15 games each in total, and when they weren't playing they had to umpire- a lot of them had not done this role before but did a great job.

There was great sportsmanship all around; competitors talking to each other, explaining rules, advising on technique and encouragement within and between teams- it was great to see!
